Charlie and I took a drive a mile down the road to our local Dairy Mart. It's like the old 7-11's or the Mom and Pop stores of the 50's. I don't enjoy going to the big supermarkets when I only need a loaf of bread or a pint of ice cream so the Mart serves it's purpose. I've been going there for 13 years but as I entered the front door I saw a sign reading: 'leave your book bags at the front door'. Quite obviously this sign was aimed at kids mostly likely the junior high types to stop shoplifting.
Dublin, Ohio is my town and Dairy Mart is in that town. Dublin is not a slum town. It is very exclusive and homes go for a pretty price. Exclude me, please. We own a condo across the street from Muirfield Village Golf Club where Jack Nicklaus holds his Memorial Golf Tournament every May. Homes inside the area go for a million or more. Our's doesn't come close. Regardless, Dublin is loaded with money and many professional folks.
This makes me wonder why kids need to go into a place like Dairy Mart and have to leave their school bags out front. Their parents could fork over $20 bills a day to them and not think twice.
I aksed the guy behind the counter if he's caught any kids copping a candy bar or more. He said they'd snagged a few. Then I asked if he called their parents. He said they don't. It causes too many problems. If I was a kid and stealing the biggest problem would have me been getting my ass kicked and then I'd have to see my dad.
