Houston Astro's Justin Verlander Is Walking The Walk

Justin Verlander is doing his share in this time of crisis. He makes a boat load of money; $33 million a year to be exact. Some of you might say, "Well, he can afford it". Yes he can. Verlander will give money for the length of the sequester and beyond.

The AL Cy Young Award winner is donating $4,775 a day for 60 days, a total of $286,500.

This leads me to ask, why isn't it possible for congressmen to reduce their salaries to around 35% of total? Are they that important? Or better yet why not give up some of the cash they're received from K Street lobbyists?
