Great News If You Love Pizza

Back in 1974 I was named head basketball coach at Davenport, Iowa Assumption High School. One of my students was named Larry Whitty. His dad, Joe, started a pizza and ice cream parlor in 1972 and it grew like fire across the Plains. The place was called Happy Joe's and indeed it was.

His establishments were fun places and many birthday parties were held much to the delight of the children.

Ice cream floats, sundaes, cone and malts were on the menu. The best part of HJ's were the pizzas. It's my understanding they've gone overboard with candy and ice cream ones so I do not want my pizza ladled with licorice. But, the place became famous for, and don't scoff, sauerkraut and Canadian bacon Za's. Those things are out of this world.

Sadly, Joe Whitty passed two years ago but son, Larry, has taken over. News came out yesterday that Joe's is expanding to 1,000 locations throughout the country.

If they come to Dublin, Ohio I'll have to tell the Queen she's been replaced. https://www.msn.com/en-us/foodanddrink/foodnews/this-adored-regional-pizza-chain-wants-to-open-1-000-nationwide-locations/ar-BB1gzZON?li=BBnb7Kw
