Back Home In Boone Iowa

If you're new to this blog you should know I was born and raised in Boone, Iowa. It's population is 12,000 and has been that way since 1880. It's an old railroad town. Twenty-five years ago pretty much every citizen had something to do with the Chicago & Northwestern. Not so any more.

Boone was okay growing up. In my high school years our athletic teams did some magical things. In my senior year, or junior year,  our high school marching band did their thing in the Rose Bowl Parade. That was heady stuff back then. I think they still might have a reunion but since I can't even play the kazoo I'm not privy to that information.

Every so often the Queen will get a wild hair and suggest we should move back to Central Iowa aka Boone. I don't have anything against the town. It's a nice place but in my heart I don't even want to be buried there.

Anyway, there was a very brief discussion in our condo here in Dublin, Ohio about making the move back. Her Majesty is a financial wizard so I had her look up costs. She found out that property taxes in my old community were as high or higher than they are in Dublin and ours would choke an elephant.

The only reason for this rise in taxes, and I might be wrong, is the city fathers gave the go ahead to build a new grain elevator.
