On Being A Baby Sparrow

In the past week I've been fortunate to have made a friend out of a young man from my hometown of Boone Iowa. I graduated high school in '64 and he the year after. Life is interesting, isn't it. The way we two hooked up was from an article in a Boone Iowa blog; our hometown. We had both worked at the same manufacturing plant in '63 and in recent days our friendship took off. In the process we exchanged pictures from our youth and those of today.

I hadn't looked at a photo of myself in years. I found this one because it was sent to me by another classmate living in North Carolina. So, I was fascinated about how, when were very young, we're like baby sparrows. We're getting there but the process is still in it's infancy. Truth be told I had a difficult time recognizing myself and I'm sober.

The first thought I had about this photo was the haircut. The Beatles were just beginning and I was one of the early ones to let my hair grow out. Most of the guys still sported flat tops. "Hey, I was a trendsetter."

The second thought that crossed my mind is I now weigh 40 pounds more.

That's it. I was reflecting on this pic and thought I'd share. The last thought I had was, life goes fast.
