Just three days after castigating the oil industry for not drilling more Joey B. reversed the train engine. Yesterday, in New York, he stated for the whole world to hear, "There ain't gonna be no more drillin'. And people cheered!
One has to wonder what the voters are thinking after they hear this but still pull the 'D' lever in the voting booth. I think I have the answer.
In retrospect the dumbest political vote I've made since I began voting in 1968 was to give Jimmy Carter the nod in 1980 when he ran against Renaldus Magnus. Yep, I admit it. I voted for Carter even in the face of 15% mortgage rates. And why, you might ask, would I do such a thing? Well, I was 34 years old trying to put food in the mouths of my children but I figured I could tolerate massive inflation hikes as long as the guy in the Oval Office kept us out of WWIII. I didn't see the big picture and didn't read the news in the newspaper because I was consumed with the everyday aspects of life.
A better contemporary example would be the 5.5 million illegals who have crossed our border since Biden took office. They include drug cartels, children sold into sex slavery, at least 80 who have been on a world wide terrorist watch list and I haven't gotten into the drugs that kill over 100,000 Americans every year. I guess it's one of those, "If it's not in my backyard then I don't care."
In essence, I was the type of voter who we see today on a regular basis. I was ignorant of most any and all things outside of 1761 54th Street in Davenport, Iowa.
I wonder how many people even know about the 'drilling statement. I don't think people even care because we don't look down the road. We live on a day to day basis and hope for the best.
