Keeping Life Simple

If you happen to be near my age bracket of 77 and you're anything like me the days of wanting drama in your life are caput. I work best with routines. For instance, I awaken around 6:30 and let CeeCee out to piddle then I fix her breakfast. She'll head on back to bed and I flip on the television and watch a show from my past. It's on MeTV from 7-8 am and runs the cartoons that were a staple of my early years. I ask you, are there any better Toons made than those by Warner Bros from the Fifties? The answer is 'No'! These are the Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Pepe LePew type all voiced by Mel Blanc. You might think I'm reverting back to my childhood by looking at the roadrunner outwitting the coyote but there's more to it than that. As I watch these gems my brain will flip to that period of time in my life and I'll recall friends I had, the school I attended and the adventures only a ten year old can appreciate.

After my cartoon show I'll watch an hour of 'Leave It To Beaver'. The writers of that show had their collective fingers on situations we all experienced before technology screwed up our lives.

Life was a heck of a lot simpler in the Eisenhower Years and I miss those days. You'd have to be my age to appreciate that last statement but for those who did you know what I mean. One of the more interesting aspects of my life, and I remember writing about this a few years ago, was the half hour I spent chit-chatting with Ken Osmond in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. If the name of Osmond escapes you then think Eddie Haskell. The man had been asked to throw out a baseball prior to a minor league baseball game and to lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. If you didn't know before reading this piece Osmond was an American patriot. Anyway, he was a down to earth gentleman and it was my pleasure to spend time with him.
