Destin Florida, Wherefore Art Thou?

It's been going on seven years since Her Majesty and I escaped the dreary Ohio winter months. Because of this and the fact we both need a change of scenery I've been, along with some very wonderful people, on the lookout for a winter escape. The process is tedious and to date unfulfilling but I'll continue on to find that near perfect place.

For a number of years we spent two months in the Panhandle of Florida, specifically near the white sand beaches of Destin. We never had it so good. As I recall we found a magnificent 3rd story apartment located 100 yards from  the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. This area is referred to as the 'Redneck Riviera'. The name had a great deal to do with the cost of renting. At the time a two bedroom condo was going for $1,200 a month. Since the Covid was thrust upon us the price has more than doubled and then some.

I'm up for new adventures so I've decided to branch out and look at other parts of the country to enjoy our winter months. Folks, it ain't easy finding the right spot and, furthermore, when I see monthly rentals in the $3,500-$4,500 range I become protective of my bank account and these are base prices. One never knows when a real emergency will show it's ugly head. For instances, I've been known to lose hearing aids the way many people lose their TV remote. But, this is my fault. I always tell people my carelessness and irresponsibility fuel our economy.

I've decided to concentrate my vacation search on the northeast coast of Florida. Why is that? The easy answer is I haven't spent a great deal of time in that part of the world and at my age time is of the essence.

So, if any of my readers can point me in the right direction, financially, I'm willing to listen.
