He Was About More Than A Chair

Anybody who follows the news cycle and especially sports now knows Bobby Knight, legendary basketball coach has died supposedly from dementia.

I heard the news on the radio last evening and that woman announcing the death gave a typical announcement; "He was blah, blah, blah and then finished by saying he would be remembered for his volatile temper." It's too bad she couldn't have come up with a better ending. Yeah, Knight did throw a chair in a basketball game because of what he perceived was bad officiating but for this guy to have to go down in history with a chair in mind is ridiculous.

There are hundreds of examples of how, over the years, he helped out suffering people in need and he didn't have to personally know these folks either.

Not once in his career can his critics come up with an example of how he cheated or bent the rules to achieve his goals. His main concern for his players was not for them to get to the NBA. What he wanted most was that they received a college degree. He was honest in coaching and in life. I defy anyone who has lived for 83 years not to have committed any transgressions. It's too bad the media can't bring themselves to honor a man who has achieved. Why, if we scrutinized the personal lives of our media fraternity we'd be hard pressed to find one of them who can compare favorably to Coach Knight. R.I.P. Robert Montgomery Knight.
