(Washington, DC) — Iowa had the highest jump in the annual infant mortality rate. A new CDC report shows the rate in Iowa rose from 3.99 to 5.2–a 30-percent increase that leads the nation. Infant mortality measures how many babies die before their first birthday per thousand live births. In Iowa in 2022 that number was 147.
