The Closer: America's Best Television Show

I'm going to say this once and never repeat it again. The television series, The Closer, is set to have it's final six episodes beginning Monday, July 9 on TNT. Lizzie and I agree on very little when it comes to the arts because the closest I get to an appreciation of the finer things in life is watching Looney Tunes cartoons. When it comes to The Closer, though, we've dedicated many viewing hours over the years and have analyzed and dissected every episode. We believe it's the best of the best. The lead character, Brenda Leigh Johnson played by Kyra Sedgewick is the deputy chief of the special crimes division of the Los Angeles police department. Sedgewick is a transplanted southern girl from Atlanta and her syrupy down south drawl and folksy charm defines her character. The name of the show comes from the fact that she can close a case using clever deduction and oftentimes tricky tactics to bring down a murderer. This is television at it's finest and ranks with The Killing, Breaking Bad and Justified as the cream of the crop. You should note that each of these shows plays on cable. The Closer is made up of a superb ensemble and the writing is impeccable. There is a rumor floating around that only Sedgewick will leave the series and the rest of the cast will remain intact. That'd be okay by me. Each character is special in their own way. Gil Garcetti, former District Attorney of LA acts as the shows chief advisor. There are six episodes left and the previews have let it be known there will be some bombshells lobbed. Don't miss this wonderful example of what outstanding writers can do.
