Health Care, British Style

A baby died in the womb after doctors told his heavily pregnant mum they were too busy to deliver him due to staff shortages. Cheryl Hurley was sent home from hospital for four days despite a scan showing the blood flow to tragic Hayden was being dangerously restricted. Medics told her she should be admitted and induced — as is standard procedure — to deal with the problem with the placenta. But distraught Cheryl, 35, said they then apologised for there being a “lack of staff and equipment over the weekend”, and asked her to come back the following week.
