The EPA and Department of Transporation have announced new fuel efficiency standards that the White House calls "historic," but like much that comes from this administration it is going to cost you, the car consumer.
The idea behind the new standards is to make cars need less gas to go further. Gas is expensive, and as the Obama administration has learned can be turned against the party in power as an election issue. So if you get a new, more fuel efficient car -- one that will have to get 54. 5 miles per gallon on average by 2025 -- you will need to buy less gas to get where you are going.
Here's the fine print though, the new cars, which car manufacturers now have to produce, are going to cost more.
"The GM Volt with it’s $40,000 price tag only gets an average fuel economy of 37.5 mpg in the city and 38.15 mpg on the highway, according to Popular Mechanics, which tested the vehicle out in real-world conditions.
Why is President Obama's solution to every problem to change behavior through punishment? We have to pay a lot to fill up our current cars, we are paying more than we did four years ago, and now cleaner cars are going to be out of reach because of the price tag.
Doesn't seem like Obama likes drivers very much. The most popular vehicle now made in the United States will become the mandated government vehicle by 2025 and is shown in the picture. Enjoy the ride.
