The Good Ol' Days

J. F. McCullough came up with an idea that spread across the land. In retrospect I find it fascinating a movie hasn't been made about the founder of Dairy Queen. Could it be it's because he wasn't a Roy Kroc type without morals?

Anyway, the first DQ was opened in Joliet, Illinois in 1940 and spread like wildfire. We had one in Boone, Iowa. It's where I had my first job as a high school junior making the grand sum of .50 cents an hour BUT I could eat whatever whenever. Today there are over 5,700 of these places dotting the landscape.

I didn't last long at the place. It's sort of like the elevator operator who was fired because he couldn't remember the route. I never learned how to put a curl on the top of the ice cream cone.
