Can it really be fifty-two years since The Queen and I bought our first home. It was located in a wooded area of Ottumwa, Iowa. Coming from a Catholic high school as teacher/coach to a public school we both looked at my first contract. Our eyes bulged with excitement and awe. It read $9,200.00. I never thought there was that much money in the world.
In March of 1971 there was going on what was called a gas war. Dealers were lowering their prices in competition. The price per in Iowa was 19 cents per gallon. For us old-times read the prices from that era and laugh-------------or cry.
