The handsome young lad pictured above is Van Triel. He's of Vietnamese descent if you didn't know. This fine upstanding citizen was protesting in Des Moines, Iowa over the many abuses he's seen in his life; like no communism if his parents or grandparents had stayed in their home country. His crime? He stole some significant papers out of a DM police car.
I have out his tattoo artist. Aren't those lovely?
Anyway, a few years ago around 1978, I wrote about teaching at Rock Island Alleman High School in Illinois. That area of the Quad Cities was noted for bringing in those Vietnamese who had escaped their own holocaust. We also brought in many Cambodians and Laotians. The students were so very grateful to be in this country. They were polite and patriot toward their new country.
By 1988 things had changed. A great many of them, boys, had rebelled. They were disrespectful and when I said I'd have to bring in their parents they could care less.
I left education the next year; not because of them but due to the change in mores and values being exhibited by a great percentage of the kids. And this was in the Catholic school.
Folks, we've got some serious problems.
