It Was Just Another Day In The Life Of MJH

Saturday June 12 was a typical lazy summer's day. Yeah, I know. It's not officially summer but when the temperature reaches 92 that's as close to summer as I can handle.

The Queen has been at the Minnesota lake place for five days. The older we get, and we ain't kids, the more difficult it is to maintain the cabin. We had renters two weeks ago so The Lady went up to interview prospective house cleaners. This is not an easy task. Since the federal and state governments decided to pay people to do nothing. Well, you get the picture.

I was looking forward to seeing my spouse of 52 years primarily because I was out of Banquet dinners which are a bargain at $1.25 per. Her Majesty is the world's best cook and I was in need of something more palatable than frozen mashed potatoes and meat loaf.

Her flight was on Southwest and left the Minneapolis airport at 4 pm with a layover at Midway in Chicago then onto Columbus. Not a problem because all told it's only a two and a half hour time frame-------or so we thought.

Charlie and I left our condo for the thirty minute drive to Columbus International at 7 pm. A word to the wise; always check your texts before leaving home.  As I settled into waiting area for the notification that her plane had arrived from Midway I looked at my phone. In capital letters I read: PLANE DELAYED.  DO NOT PICK ME UP. A quick phone call informed me via Her Majesty that there weren't enough baggage employees at the airport to service all the planes. You guessed it. It's more fun to receive government 'sit on your butt' money than to go to work.

Charlie and I drove home. We watched a few boring TV shows then I went up to lie down. At 11pm CDT the phone rang again. "We're about to take off", said you-know-who. My brain told me to tell her to Uber home. Common sense told me, "I'll be there when you arrive."

Back in the car were we and finally at 1:23 am EDT we were headed for Dublin, I don't want to say I was tired but on the way home my eyeballs fell out of their sockets four times.

I can  hardly wait to see what happens today. Oh, Charlie has awakened from his noontime nap and asked if I'd get him a treat, Such is the life if a retired person.
