George Washington warned us to “guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism,” and Theodore Roosevelt said “patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president or any other public official.”
We've fallen into a sad trap of 'sort of electing' incompetent boobs. For example, the current holder of the White House has stated it's patriotic for the wealthy to pay higher taxes. In addition, he stated patriots wear Covid masks.
Looking down the road, let's say 100 years from now, what will the history books tell us(if we still have such items) about our leaders of today and their pronouncements. How will the likes of AOC, Ilhan Omar, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer be compared with Daniel Webster, Henry Clay and Thomas Jefferson?
