What Were You Doing 41 Years Ago Today

Was it that long ago I was 34 years old. I'm so old I had to subtract 41 from 75 twice to make sure I got it right.

The Olympic games were taking place in Lake Placid, New York. Television was limited in scope at the time; so much so that a hockey game between the United States and the Soviet Union took place in the afternoon without much fanfare. It was shown later that evening.

As it happened I was doing the color on a radio show at a high school basketball game. It also happened that word spread across the wires the U.S. had won the 'Miracle on Ice' and I was privileged to announce it to the radioland of the Quad-Cities Iowa/Illinois.

We need a positive like that today to bring us together.
