Every so often when I see an acquaintce I'll stick out my hand expecting a return shake. I'm either admonished or a fist bump is expected in this time of the greatest epidemic in history. Well, not as bad as the Great Plague, but close.
There's an alternative in lieu of the handshake and it's receiving kudos on all sides. It may have begun in Japan but no matter.
When approached by another person, stick out your foot like you're going to do the hokey pokey. Next, rub your shoes together. Don't worry if you look silly. The safety of it all will be worth it. People do silly things all the time and get away with it. I know of a guy who pretended he had a hula hoop around his waist. Now that's goofy.
