Did You Know This About Slavery?

Slavery is a terrible thing. We all know that. Heck, one of my children, when a kid said, "It's slavery around here." We could be so mean.

Anyway, slavery in the United States----------there isn't any. So, why do people in this country get so much grief for something that was banned one hundred and sixty years ago? Personally, I have never met a former slave and I seriously doubt any of my acquaintances have either. Doesn't it seem appropriate that the complainers do something about where slavery does exist? It does, said a doltish person.?

Yes, it does.

While over a hundred countries still have slavery, six countries have significantly high numbers:

  1. India (18.4 million)
  2. China (3.4 million)
  3. Pakistan (2.1 million)
  4. Bangladesh (1.5 million)
  5. Uzbekistan (1.2 million)
  6. North Korea (1.1 million)
A wee bit about slavery in this country. It was legal from 1783 to 1863. But, MJ, you might say, we had slaves being brought over here beginning in 1619. Yeah, there were but we weren't the United States. We were a part of the colonial Empire of England. They're the ones who should have put an end to the practice but didn't. They wanted the cotton, rice and indigo to fill their coffers. I don't hear black radicals mentioning this. You know, the ones who want reparations.

Did you know in our history there were 3,3000 Black freemen who owned slaves? I bet you didn't.

Did you know from 1801-1805 the United States fought a war with North African Black Muslims. They were stopping our ships on the high seas and taking our sea men as slaves. But they did more than that. They took slaves from all European countries as far north as Iceland. I'd wager your teachers never told you this.

Chew on this info for awhile
