Life In The 1950's

When I was a kid my dad worked as a brakeman for the Chicago & Northwestern railroad. I can't count the number of times the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen went out on strike for what I don't know. I never understood strikes---ever. Dad would be off work for two or three months. Twice we had to sell our house and move in with my grandfather because we couldn't make house payments. But that must have been okay with the railroad guys because they got off work. My dad liked this because it gave him extra time to visit the tavern.
