Civilizations Die From Within

A week or so ago I posted a blog showing the reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire. A number of historians have offered their reasons for this calamity but most are all in agreement.

Does anyone believe our once great country is in danger of falling to outside enemies? I'd have to believe there are more than a few countries in the world who would be happy to see the top dog knocked off his perch. In this country, especially, people root for the underdog unless they live in New York City and cheer for the Yankees.

There is a very serious problem in this country and our leaders only give it lip service. What I'm about to present might shock you. It did me. Some of it I have alluded to in the past.

There aren't many citizens of this nation who aren't familiar with a family who is suffering because one member has a drug problem. Heck, we all know it's a big part of controversy in the White House---or should be.

Allow me to get to the point. There have been in this once great land 93,000 people, moms, dads, sons, daughters, etc. who have died from a drug overdose. Last year the number was 60,000. Three-fourths of these deaths came from one drug; fentanyl. Eighty per cent of this hideous killer comes from communist China and it is produced in a city with which we're all familiar, Wuhan, and it's labs are located directly across the street from another infamous building; the one that produced our Covid disease. In addition, 80% of this killer comes across our southern border. The border that is wide open. Fentanyl is so deadly the amount needed to kill one person can fit on the head of a sharpened pencil. One pound of fentanyl can kill 250,000 people. Does this scare or bother you? It does me.

I had mentioned this problem to a friend two weeks ago and he said, "Why don't folks stop?" This isn't the question. I can come up with a couple. Why is the border open? Why don't we clamp down on China and it's exportation of fentanyl? Too often we put the proverbial cart before the horse. The government will spend billions on programs after the fact. Why can't we stop the source and pronto?

Or is it possible our leaders want this social problem. The Border: We used to have one but not anymore. There have been illegals from 172 countries and counting coming across. The cartels now control sex trafficking of small children. According to sources today there are 19,000 children under age 18 in a caravan. But, know what? There are some big football games on television this upcoming Saturday. Let's worry about drugs later.
