Let Them Steal

Think back to earlier times when certain actions done by people caused you to shake your head in wonderment and think it's the end of times. By this I'm referring to the massive amount of thievery in this country without repercussion. We see stories on television about thugs entering places like Walmart and Target and stealing to their hearts content. Yesterday, in Dublin Ohio, our hometown it hit home and the story has to be true because The Queen told me so and I don't argue with her.

Dublin Ohio by anyone's measure is one of the top communities for its size (60,000) in the United States. It's the home of Wendy's and the Memorial Golf Tournament. If you go to a search engine and type in 'Dublin Ohio' you'll find nothing but positives.

Anyway, one of Her Majesty's dear friends from Bible study related a story to her about an occurrence at a local Kroger store 2.5 miles from our condo. The woman stated she was walking into Kroger's and passed a woman on the way out with a grocery cart loaded to the brim. Unfortunately, for the other person the cart tipped over as she was exiting the store and the contents spilled onto the ground. So, being a good Christian person said lady helped the other person put all the groceries back in the cart. When the task was completed the shopper went on her way.

It was then the Bible Lady had a thought, "Gee, I wonder why none of the groceries were in plastic bags?" And the answer came to her as fast as a .45 calibre bullet travels 10 feet. The person was stealing all the groceries! So, the saintly person went to store management with her concerns and the answer given was, "We don't stop thieves for fear one of our employees might get hurt"! Read that last sentence again and tell me things aren't A-OK i this country.

And after I heard this tale I asked myself, "Why is it I was nurtured with a Catholic conscience?" As an example, when I was 5 years old I stole a nickel out of my grandma's purse to buy baseball cards and to this day I'm concerned I'll burn in Purgatory for that activity. Think how wonderful it must feel to be able to kill, maim and, yes, steal without impunity, and go on with my life thinking about how I can screw society and get away with it."
