During the Fall of my senior year in high school we had a student teacher football coach who helped out. His name was John Cooper and he was an outstanding player at Iowa State who later in life became the head coach at Ohio State. During practice one August day when Our Creator decided to bless us with 100 degree temperatures Mr. Cooper decided to exert his Simon Legree authority and gave us the task of doing 100 up-downs as punishment to, oh, I don't know, probably not make a correct block or tackle or something like that. If you don't know up-downs require running in place, dropping to our bellies, then do ten push-ups and jump back to running in place. Cooper gave us not one of these, not five and not ten. He gave us one hundred. I remember looking over at our center, Steve Roeder, and saying, "Is this guy nuts or what?"
There's a football team in Canton, Ohio named Mr. McKinley High School and they have a tradition for fielding excellent football teams. It appears their coach made a boo-boo. As punishment for one player he made the Jewish lad eat a pepperoni pizza. In other words, he made the boy consume a pork pizza. Bad move, Coach. Even so, if I was the kid I'd suck it up and swallow. Pork is a lot easier to stomach than a hundred up-downs. https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2021/06/02/ohio-football-coach-allegedly-made-jewish-player-eat-pork-punishment/
