The Queen and I went to the 11 am Mass at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Columbus this morning. It's made up of middle class congregants and reminds me of attending the old stone church, Sacred Heart, when I was a kid growing up in Boone, Iowa. When we seated ourselves in our pew I looked at the large crucifix hanging on the wall behind the alter and then I thought about our independence, what I want for America, and gave thanks to God for this day.
During the homily the priest told us the largest religious denomination in the country in 2021 was None. Boy, is that sad or what?
I thought it said volumes when, as we left the driveway, our neighbor lady hailed us down. Her Majesty rolled down the window and was asked, "Where are you going this 4th of July?". When she was told to church the neighbor said, "Oh". As in 'Booooring' or 'Why the heck would you do that'?
I spend a good deal of time thinking about our nations history, what happened and how we got here. It's just the way I am. I'd bet most Baby Boomers are this way. They grew up knowing their parents were the real heroes fighting anti-Fascists.
Enjoy the day and dedicate a brat to me.
