Just Like The Old Days------Not!

Being an aged man means I have the unique ability to multitask. I'm not very good at it because it's a women thing but I still try.

Last night while in bed I was looking at television on my Smart Phone. I like it because I can scroll to three or four channels when a commercial comes on. I switched between Fox, a college basketball game, the Hallmark Channel and, tah-dah, the Ms Universe pageant. In the old days we called it a beauty contest but the word 'pageant' seems to be more in vogue.

I entered when the program got down to five candidates. It was then that each woman was asked a question, an earth shattering one, in order to find out their composure and the ability to think on their feet. The first question for Miss Paraguay dealt with climate change and the questioner asked, "Considering many people consider climate change to be a hoax etc. etc. etc. I just knew the answer would make me puke in my mouth---and it did. The next question for Miss India dealt with the Covid and, once again, the questioner posed the question, "How can we convince people to get vaccinated?". I was praying and hoping the answer would be "Isn't it ridiculous that we have to worry about the bull*shit the governments tell us"? But, alas, the answer was what one would expect. The 3rd contestant was a black lady from South Africa. I can't repeat the question because the one asking it had a distinct dialect as did the woman from SA.

My thought on this was, "Hey, they're in America. Shouldn't they have the common decency to speak English properly?"

Well, Miss India won and the girls hugged and kissed and under her breath I heard the runner up, Miss Paraguay say, "Screw her. I was robbed."

Looking back I remember when Bob Barker of 'Truth or Consequences' fame was the host. He did a great job. And he was lucky too. During those times the girls, all of them, paraded around in swimsuits. They don't do this anymore. It's really the only reason I watched.
