Just two days ago a sophomore swimmer at the Univ of Northern Iowa died. On that same day a 20 year old basketball player at the Univ of Wisconsin-Whitewater passed away while playing a pickup game. A week ago six doctors, all in their 30's and all employed by the same hospital in Canada died of heart attacks the same week. Wow! The U.S. government has reached a new deal with Moderna for 65 million additional COVID-19 vaccine doses, the Biden administration announced on July 29.
The deal is valued at $1.7 billion.
Moderna will sell doses of its vaccine that target Omicron subvariants, according to the agencies that announced the agreement. The actual contract has not yet been made public.

The Women Behind The Men
If my closest acquaintances could speak with you they would tell you one of my great interests is history. I very much enjoy reading and learning about those who came before us. Maybe it's why I became a high school history teacher. It gave me the opportunity to delve into the inside stories.
It's one thing to learn about the Declaration of Independence. It's quite another to find out the personal inside stories of those who were the signers.
I was teaching a class of high school kids in 1971 and a couple of the kids were telling me about how ridiculous was the studying of the subject; American History. Well, it would have been wrong for me to come out and tell a kid, "You're quite the dumbass so shut up and pay attention" so I asked this particular 16 year old if he had any hobbies; things he very much enjoyed. And his answer was, "I like to hunt." Viola! The door was opened and I took advantage.
I knew and still don't know much about guns. This kid knew it all. I got him to talking about different weapons and then we segued into wars and lo and behold I'd made a convert.
Folks, every day is a history lesson. All we have to do is come across an area of interest for you. Once in awhile I'll go to a site called Ranker and it's pretty much a listing of history subjects. Today's was a biographical expose' of the women behind some of the biggest thugs and mass murderers in world history. Fascinating, huh? I mean what kind of woman would snag onto Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler or even MJ Hawkeye? So, now were going to have a $700 billion dollar tax thrown at us for Joe's BBB plan except hidden in it are things like increasing the IRS staff.
I ask you, when in anyone's lifetime has a recession been solved by increasing the tax burden on the people?
I hearken back to Sen. Walter Mondale when he was nominated to run for the presidency against Renaldus Magnus. He had just received the nomination and was standing on the platform at the DNC convention. He turned to an aide standing next to him and said these prophetic words, "These people don't know it yet but I'm going to tax their asses off."

Nicholas Roske, the California man who attempted to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, was literally gunning for a SCOTUS trifecta. He wanted to kill three justices. His plan was to “change the votes for decades to come,” according to court documents.
Roske flew in from California and took a taxi to Kavanaugh’s house. He was armed with a handgun, a knife, pepper spray, and burglary tools. When I was a kid, and you know this if you're a regular reader, I was a huge fan of baseball from my early years. I had my heroes; Henry Aaron being on top. But there were other guys from the 50's who garnered my attention even if I rooted against their teams.
Let's say Willie Mays came to my hometown to give a clinic. Would I have boycotted it because he wasn't on the Milwaukee Braves? I don't think so. But, this situation happened in Washington D.C. yesterday at George Washington Univ. and the undergraduates at that school kicked Willie Mays to the curb, so to speak.
Justice Clarence Thomas was employed by the university and taught a monthly class. I mean, he's a member of the Supreme Court of the United States. That's heady stuff. Well. following up on the recent Roe v. Wade decision 11,000 students signed a petition to have Thomas removed from the faculty. My first reaction to this was, "Dear Lord, strike me down dead right now."
These spoiled brats had Willie Mays in their midst. They could take his class, possibly share a cup of coffee or saunter with him through campus but, no, these punks, with emphasis on 'punks' threw a chance of a lifetime in the toilet.

The Mick Or Buzz Aldrin? Your Choice
Do you collect memorabilia? I used to but as I've aged those visual memories of my youth have been thrown or given away. During my life I was a saver of campaign buttons dating back to 1912. My grandfather left me containers of pennies. The earliest dated to 1863. A few years ago I divided my treasure trove among my ten grandchildren. Knowing kids the way I do my suspicion is much of this historical largesse might be in the a city dump. That's okay. I know I disrespected valuable items of my youth. Heck, I had an autographed baseball from the 1957 World Champion Milwaukee Braves. An eleven year old brain can often be described as 'brain dead' and I was the epitome of this. The day I came home from Milwaukee I played catch with THE ball, threw an errant toss and it rolled down a drain sewer opening. Hey, who knew that team would be the only World Series Champion in their history?
Anyway, there's a big news story today. The flight jacket of U.S. astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, will be put up for auction. The asking price is around $2.7 million. This seems like a great deal of money until one puts it in perspective. There's going to be a sports memorabilia convention and one item for sale will be an original TOPPS Mickey Mantle baseball rookie card. I have to admit I probably had at least ten of these cards while in my youth. Some of them found their way onto my bicycle spokes. It, the card/spokes thing, was a fad in the Fifties much like---like------like, I dunno but it was in retrospect very stupid.
The Mantle card is expected to fetch $10 million dollars. It just goes to show sports is the number one most important aspect of in this country. Mickey Mantle vs. Buzz Aldrin? It doesn't make sense unless you stop to think. Buzz Aldrin didn't know how to lay down a proper bunt and he didn't know how to 'take 2 and hit to right'.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around the energy controversy. We, in this nation, have more energy availability than any nation in the world in the form of natural gas and petroleum. We have enough of this resource to last 400 years. We could be energy independent from every country in the world. This administration wants to buy petroleum from Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. This fuel would be put on ships and sent to the United States leaving residue in our oceans. The product of these countries is no even close in cleanliness to ours. The United States is giving money to nations who hate us and will use this cash to wage war on the United States. Our oil products employed hundreds of thousands of workers and these workers lived in communities who were beneficiaries of the black gold through housing, restaurants; every form of business done to maintain an economy.

Chicagoans Need To Go To The Range

When I was in grade school it was cool to have the largest box of crayons especially when Crayola came out with turquoise. I liked that color. Other than colors we didn't make a big deal out of them except for Johnny Joe Frist. Major League Baseball showcased its very best talents in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, and the viewing public said nah, not interested. Television ratings for a fast declining woke league were at rock bottom in the history of all-star game viewing.
Broadcast by Fox Sports, the 2022 all-star game drew just 7.5 million viewers with a lowly 4.2 rating, and Sports Business Journal documented this being the poorest television showing ever for the Midsummer Classic. That’s a 10-percent ratings drop compared to last year’s controversy-dogged game.
