Trouble In Burr Ridge

Last week I made an annual trip to Illinois to meet up with a group of college fraternity brothers for golf, if you can call it that considering we're kicking in the doors on age eighty. The community we met in is called Burr Ridge. It's a community, a suburb of Chicago, located on the southwest side of the the murder capitol of America.

In the old days we used to golf then go to a sports bar. We suck down beer and dine on burgers and fries then retire to a Super 8 and await the next days activities. Those days have been gone for quite some time when one of our wealthier brothers decided he'd take over.

These days it would be impossible to find a reasonably priced hotel in Burr Ridge. The median family income of the community is $200,000. This transfers to hotels going for around $150 per night and the restaurant fare starts at around $50 and that's a' la carte. I was in the hotel lobby, saw a buddy who I hadn't seen in years, and offered to buy him a glass of wine. Cha-ching! That one glass of vino filled half way up went for $22.00. Now you understand that in Burr Ridge a wallet has to be filled with a lot more than one Ben Franklin.

I'm sure you're all familiar with what's going on with Gov. Abbott in Texas transferring illegals to cities claiming to be 'sanctuary cities'. Chicago, of course, is one of these and the mayor, Lori 'Light in the loafers' Lightfoot is livid with anger considering the Texas governor is putting illegals on buses to be dropped off in her area. Then, the governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, took to a podium and lambasted Texas for it's unimaginable and cruel action.

Guess what? Pritzker has sent these new immigrants to Burr Ridge where they will be housed in hotels. There are four in the City. One starts at $109 per night and then the ladder can be climbed to $190.

So, I had to wonder, what do the citizens of Burr Ridge think about letting these folks come in? I should note Burr Ridge is highly conservative and votes overwhelmingly Republican.

Oh, the beauty of it all is the Illinois governor didn't let the mayor of Burr Ridge know what was happening to his once safe community.

There are rough days ahead in this country and then I fear it's going to get rougher.
