Maybe Inflation Isn't All That Bad

Yours truly completed, in four days, an 1800 mile journey to Illinois, Wisconsin, western Iowa and back to Ohio. One thing I noticed was the inflationary cost of items I used to take for granted. For instance, I stopped at the I-80 Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa. It's advertised as the largest truck stop in the United States. Being that I was hungry I purchased a 12 ounce cup of coffee and a pumpkin muffin. When the lady at the register told me my cost was $5.95 I was incredulous and countered with, "Say what?"

Is it me or does this price seem outrageous? And it wasn't just in Walcott. All across the upper Midwest it was the same story. Since when does a cup o' joe come out to be $3.25? The problem, in my way of thinking, is the younger generation takes these prices for granted because it's all they've known. As for me, my mind is still living in the mid-1950's when a bottle of Coke set me back ten cents.

There is one good aspect of high prices of today. I'll refuse to pay for the items. Oh, I won't steal them but I will refuse to purchase the items which means I'll have less calories going into my system which, in turn, means my chances of being an old age fat slob are greatly lessened.
