 I'm so old I remember when major league baseball players had to take a second job after their season was over to pay their household expenses. The great Braves pitcher, Warren Spahn, made $8,000 in the 1950's. An umpire in the American League, Don Denkinger, was a bartender at a sports bar in Cedar Falls, Iowa. If you're into baseball he was the umpire who called George Brett out in the 'pine tar incident'.
