Homicides are outpacing COVID deaths in the District of Columbus and in other major cities, prompting former law enforcement officials to sound the alarm on the nationwide effort on the part of some activists and politicians to defund police departments.
In the nation’s capital, there were eight deaths from COVID-19 in July.
