Idle Thoughts From MJ Hawkeye

A few days ago I was in one of those moods we called in the Sixties, 'a funk', I stated I was going to get away from politics. I still hope to but since everything is political I may have to rescind that pledge and concentrate on toning it down somewhat. As I've stated many times, everything in life is political.

For example, a senator from Nevada, Catherine Cortez Masto(a dumbocrat) has been adamant in her verbal diarrhea stating we must become energy independent. I found it strange(No, I didn't) that she has been taking big bucks from lobbyists working for Russia's Nordstream 2 pipeline. When it comes to politicians and corruption we should contemplate the words of Harry Truman, "Anyone who leaves Washington with more money than when they came into town are crooks." This puts people like Nancy Pelosi in a different stratosphere.

You see, what good does it do for me to complain about these vermin in D.C.? It's been this way for many, many years. If you think it's bad now, the corruption I mean, check out that period immediately after the Civil War. Read about a fella out of New York named William Marcy Tweed. And he was the holder of a small political office. Then you might jump to the 1920's. As a hint there was what was called the Teapot Dome scandal.

Upon awakening this morning I remembered it was my middle child's birthday. How in the world did he get to be 50 already? He is such a talented guy it's difficult to believe he sprung from my loins. Thank goodness his mother is the partner. She's what's called Ms. Brilliant. Anyway, my boy knows 1950's and 60's trivia better than those who lived it. He's an extremely talented artist so much so that he established his own company as an independent graphic design businessmen doing ads for companies around the world. Heck, when it comes to art and drawing I never gravitated past stick men. When he was 18 months old he was sitting on the floor of my in laws solarium. I looked down at him then motioned my brother in law to see if I was hallucinating. The lad had lined up blocks A-Z. That's pretty heady stuff for a dad who was a Physical Education Major.

A week ago I was hell bent on traveling to a community in Iowa called Waukee. It's a seemingly idyllic town of 25,000 located ten miles west of Des Moines. It's time, I've been saying, to make like an elephant and go home to my eternal reward. Now, with the price of fuel and every other item needing excessive amounts of cash, I'd be wiping out my savings account going back and forth. We're staying put for awhile in Dublin Ohio. Trust me when I write there could be worse places to live. FJB

Aside from The Queen do you know my best friend? Well, he's my pal, Charlie. That little guy came into my life three years ago last February 10th as three time rescue. He's the same breed as Toto and I absolutely love him to death. I pity those clowns who gave up on him but would very much enjoy sending them a 'thank you' note.

Would you care to guess the major reason why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941? Simply put it was over petroleum and our embargo on the Japanese Empire. Go figure!

That's about it for today. Central Ohio, according to the weather guessers, will have one more day in the 20's this month then spring time temps arrive. Truth be told about snow and cold in Dublin: it's not that big of a deal. As a side note I was looking at the temps for our summer lake place in Minnesota as of two weeks ago: Yikes! Minus 15 doesn't thrill me all that much.

It's NCAA tournament week which is one of my favorites. I watched, for lack of anything better to do last night, a tournament final with Furman versus Chattanooga. Furman scored with 4.9 seconds to play to take a two point lead. The team from Tennessee had a kid launch a half court shot and it went in for a one point victory. It was the epitome of what is called, "The thrill of victory------the agony of defeat.

Go Hawks, go Drake, go Cyclones.
