Sad But True

I tend to keep things simple these days. One of my favorite activities is going to the Golf Club of Dublin driving range. They offer a pretty good deal for folks. For $45 a month I can hit unlimited range balls. I've gotten to the point where I'd rather hit balls than play. A golf round takes four hours. I can hit as many balls as I want without having to get in and out of a cart. Better yet I set up my directors chair, put my AM FM radio head set on and when I tire of dubbing balls I can sit and listen to my favorite stations. Also, there are hitters on either side of me and conversations flow like water over Niagara Falls.

Yesterday I was hitting next to a couple of seventeen year old kids and we began chatting. One of them had just completed his junior year at Dublin Jerome high school. So, being a former American History instructor I asked him about his course of study in this area; what was being taught. His answer was not surprising in the least considering today's academic climate. He said they mostly studied about civil rights movements and the plight of blacks in this country the Constitution of the United States be damned.

It appears to me Calvin and Hobbes are on their way to academic excellence if ya' know what I mean.
