Do you ever do things that turn out to be costly because of a lack of common sense? I do it on a daily basis. If you read this blog regularly you know that I'm a firm believer in fueling our economy by being irresponsible and careless. Case in point: two nights ago as I was readying myself for bed so I removed my shoes. They're the kind with shoelaces and since I'm to lazy to bend over and untie them I'll take one foot and push it on the heel of the other shoe to remove it from my foot. I'm not the only one to perform this task I know but in doing so when I gave the heel a shove it came loose. Not a problem I thought. I'll get a clamp along with gorilla glue and, viola, the problem will be solved. Alas, I don't own a clamp large enough to get the job done and one purchased at the hardware store would set me back $34.95 so I decided to go to my local shoe repair facility.
The first question I asked the lady at the counter was, "What's the turnaround time on this?" I sort of figured she'd say, "Later in the day will be fine." I would have been wrong. She told me the job would take a week! Incredulously, I asked, "You've got to be kidding." She wasn't. Then I wanted to know the price and her answer was, "It'll be $22! And I said, "Thanks for your time" and quickly bolted out the door and jumped in my car. As I entered the I-270 Outer belt I kept thinking: $22 dollars for three cents worth of glue that needs one hour to dry. It's a rip off, I told myself. "I won't waste that kind of money."
And as I drove for about another twenty minutes it hit me--------For the last three days I've driven 25 minutes each way to a golf driving range in Westerville, Ohio and purchased a large bucket of golf balls which goes for $11. if my thinking is correct this has only put me out $33.00 since I'd visited the establishment the prior two days. So, if you're laughing at me don't. I've got my priorities and hitting golf balls far exceeds having shoes on my feet. If you don't believe me ask any golfer.
