"Come Charley Come"

After putting off the inevitable for as long as possible we acquired a dog yesterday. To begin with it's part Cairn and Schnauzer. The guy is four years old and has had it's string cut. It is also a very ugly dog. The Queen doesn't care about the looks. It's like any mother loving her child. It has to be done.

The name given at birth was Shorty. Since that's an Okeefenokee name it was changed to Charlie. We had another dog named Casey in 1990. It's real name was Daisy but that's a ridiculous name and Casey was more generic. If we had stuck with Shorty it'd be like. "Who has the beer?". "Shorty does and he'll be her as soon as he can get the tires changed on the pick up.".

Let it be understood this is not my pooch. I didn't want another. When Casey was put down is when I decided I'd never go through the heart break again. And I won't this time, either.

As I thought about our little rat eared Short-----------err-------Charlie this morning I was reminded of the words of wisdom uttered by someone years ago; how a dog differs from your wife.

1.  The later you are, the more excited your dogs are to see you.

2. Dogs don't notice if you call them by another dog's name.

3. Dogs like it if you leave a lot of things on the floor.

4. A dog's parents never visit.

5. Dogs agree that you have to raise your voice to get your point across.

6. You never have to wait for a dog; they're ready to go 24 hours a day.

7. Dogs find you amusing when you drink beer all day and night.
8. Dogs like to go hunting and fishing.

9. A dog will not wake you up at night to ask, "If I died, would  you get another dog?"

10. If a dog has babies, you can put an ad in the paper and give them away.

11. A dog will let you put a studded collar on it without calling you a pervert.

12. If a dog smells another dog on you, they don't get mad. They just think it's interesting.

13. Dogs like to ride in the back of a pickup truck.

14.  If you lock your dog in the truck of the car and leave him there for six hours he'll still be happy to see you when he gets out.
