A Cutter Update

If you're a reader you now know we've taken in a she dog who we named Cutter. She's been with us for ten days and if I say so myself she's coming along nicely. For new readers the lil' lady came out of Kentucky as a rescue. She lived with an elderly women for five years who either passed away or had to go to assisted living leaving this pooch homeless.

For the first eight days as foster parents I had my doubts about keeping her. She's deathly afraid of other dogs especially large ones. She also has a fear of some men and because of her actions around three of them I was led to believe she may have been physically abused.

This morning on our daily constitutional Cutter approached a smallish dog and began doing what normal ones do-------she sniffed its rear end. For me this was huge when it came to the aspect of socializing.

I golfed today. It's the first time I've been away from her for more than an hour since she came into our home. Our neighbor let her outside a couple of times but when I got home five hours later and as I walked in the front door she saw me and started jumping up and down. My heart burst with joy. She was either excited to see me or since it was 3 pm she's become used to getting her treats at that time. Regardless, it was a good sign.

After this I said, "Cutter, let's go for a ride" and she sprinted to the front door. It doesn't take man's best friend long to learn to love riding in the car is tantamount to winning the lottery. In the beginning Cutter would stay on the passenger side of the car. As it is now she jumps onto my lap to look out the window.

Tomorrow is a big day for us. I will take her to the Vet to make certain she's as healthy as can be and then I'll sign the adoption papers. My mind often wanders back to our lovable Charlie and Cutter can never fill the void of losing him but in her way she's helping make life worthwhile again and that's a good thing.
