I'd imagine after reading the headline you would believe the current administration is shutting down this site. Not so.
On July 19 of this past week a storm decimated northern Minnesota. The winds raged between 80 and 90 miles per hour.
We happened to be at our lake cabin with the winds arrived at 11:30 pm. I was sleeping in the basement and heard the howling. Since my boys were at the cabin I thought, "Let them get up and do all the necessary tasks to batten down the hatches".
Regardless, there was damage. A very large pine tree decided it needed a soft spot to reside as it hit the ground so it picked out my boat trailer. Three other sixty foot pine trees fell across our road from our neighbor's lot which meant we were landlocked until a tree service could do it's deed.
Furthermore, we and all of those around us from Bemidji to Duluth lost their power. This situation stayed this way until last evening. We all feel like Daniel Boone; all fifteen of the family members who are in the cabin.
It's not a huge problem. The grandchildren learned how to use an outhouse. We took gallons of water from our spring fed lake to boil. As a side note and before we discovered the benefits of an outhouse wanted to find out if bears do defecate in the woods. Evidently not because I didn't see a single one.
This site is actually up and running but as for the experiences of this past week, well, I need a rest.
