Sort Of Scary When You Think About It

I was emailing a buddy in Oklahoma this morning. It's important to mention I initiated the contact at 6 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. And why this early emailing you might ask? Well, I'm not a sleepologist by any stretch but in the past ten years I've noticed my sleep patterns have changed tremendously. For instance, I went through a period last year when I would go to La-La Land around 3 in the morning and then awaken at 9 or 10. I didn't like this but it is what it is.

Lately, though, I now nod off around midnight and am up around 5 or 6 and the pitiful part is I don't nap during the day. I've come to the conclusion it's all due to old age brought on by a lack of strenuous exercise. Let's face it. I'm OLD! And not only am I old I'm also realistic about ageing. I've slowed down and because of this I want to enjoy what little time I have left. Would you care to know who hasn't slowed down? If you answered 'yes' then I'll tell you. It's the politicians in Washington D.C.

Take a look at this guy.

His name is Chuck Grassley. He's a senator from Iowa and a few weeks ago turned 89. Why hasn't he retired spending his golden years with his family travelling the world?

I began my teaching/coaching career in 1968 in a smallish farm community called New Hartford High School in Iowa. I taught American Government to a group of seniors. One of my students was named Neil Grassley and that then young 17 year old kid was the son of then a member of the House of Representatives, Chuck Grassley. Just what is it about politicians that makes them think and believe the can perform their duties proficiently kicking in the door on age 100? As an example of this I attended a men's club meeting for the first time last night and as soon as I sat down I looked to my left and noticed a certain gentleman. I said to myself, "That guy looks familiar. I wonder where I met him before." After five minutes it hit me. I used play golf with the fella ONLY SIX YEARS AGO and did so once a week for a year. And now at age 77 I could barely remember the dude and the good aspect of this is my lack of memory didn't involve declaring war on other nations or determining our laws.

There are quite a few of these yahoos who are controlling our lives who, mostly likely, couldn't function during the day without making sure they had Depends on their person.

If you read the news regularly you'll know that Sen. Dianne Feinstein is also 89 years old. The word on the street is she's suffering dementia. It's a rumor but a solid one and if this is the case why the heck is she still working if you want to call what pols do work? In my mind it sort of makes me think these people aren't all that special or necessary.

I've included in this piece a list of the 10 eldest senators. One of them is Ed Markey from Massachusetts. I remember when he first ran for the House of Representatives which was around the time cave men discovered fire. He made a promise that if elected he would serve only two terms and then return to private life. Sort of makes one wonder what these guys are all about-----their motives, I mean. Don't be silly. I know their motives. They begin and end with power and money. https://www.oldest.org/politics/members-of-us-senate/
