On The Eve Of Hiroshima

As a young child growing up in Boone Iowa in the early 1950's we boys played a lot of war games. Most of our parents participated in WW II in one way or another so we had access to much of the memorabilia they brought home at the conclusion of the war. When we 'played' war we traded sides. It was always neat that the Americans won every pretend battle. The only good part of being a Nazi or Jap was when you were shot dying became pure drama.

With the movie Oppenheimer now showing it might be on its way to being a classic I came across a more than interesting article from the brilliant Don Surber regarding the end of the conflict due to the decimation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It's a good thing Japan surrendered when they did because we only had two A-bombs which would have meant a land invasion culminating, or so I'm told,  with one million U.S. casualties.

I'm certain all the old-timers reading this piece will be more than fascinated. https://donsurber.substack.com/p/we-should-have-dropped-three-bombs
