Minneapolis: It's An Okay Town

The wife and I left the lake yesterday and drove almost two hours toward Minneapolis before we checked into a motel. On the way it's become a requirement to stop at mile marker 178 on I-94, the Clearwater exit. If you're ever near here, say, anywhere in a ten state area you must stop in to Nelson's Bakery. It is by far the best bun house ever constructed. By all means buy their apple fritters. Have you ever heard the phrase, "to die for". Well, they are to die for. We then took in the movie, 'The Family' with DiNiro, Michelle Phillips and two young kids who were perfectly cast. It's about a Mafia family under the witness protection program who are placed somewhere in France. I didn't want to go because I thought it might be one of those killing movies. It was that but it was very funny and well written. It was a comedy with killing.
Today, we visited Minneapolis. It's a wonderful city---from May(late May) until November. It was in the mid-sixties and the natives were dressed appropriately, bikinis for the women and skimpy clothes for the men. Our first stop took us to the very beautiful St, Mary's Basilica. Oddly enough, it's the oldest basilica in the United States. Whoda thunk it? We like visiting churches. The architecture is magnificent and, regardless of where one goes, the holy water is all the same.
After this we were told to visit the Walker Museum of Art. This was my big concession to Lizzie; not exactly for me but I've forced her to attend athletic events over the years so we're even. Thank God there wasn't much to the viewing. Lizzie only wanted to go because it's supposedly a famous place. It's all modern art. There was one piece of work done by a man name Claes Oldenburg from the 60's. It showed the bottom of a toilet compared with a map of Detroit. Even back then that city was in the crapper. I was glad we stayed only an hour. I noticed I was developing a lisp and bent wrist.
The highlight of the day was having lunch at Matt's Bar. It's located at 3500 Cedar St. S in Minneapolis. It's famous for it's burgers which are called Jucy Lucy. Both Man vs. Food and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives have televised from the place. The burgers, two of them fried with a piece of cheese between them. Be careful when you take that first bite. The hot, oozy cheese shoots directly toward your pie hole and it's delicious.
In the afternoon, after our cup of coffee at and outdoor café we checked into our motel and did the thing we do best. We took a nap. The perfect end to a perfect day.
