The War On Women That Wasn't
Mia Love ran for a seat in the House of Representatives and won. The young woman is a Republican. Mia is from the state of Utah, Mormon country and very, very White. Can we please put to rest the mantra that Republicans are racists. And while were at it let's stop the War on Women nonsense.
Joni Ernst became the first woman elected to Congress in Iowa. She defeated Rep. Bruce Braley, a trial lawyer who became notorious for missteps along the campaign trail. Ernst will also be the first female combat veteran to serve in the Senate.
West Virginia elected its first female senator. Shelley Moore Capito defeated Democrat Natalie Tennant to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Jay Rockefeller.
Republican women also fared well in House races.
Barbara Comstock won the 10th congressional district in Virginia against John Foust, who came under fire as an elitist when it was discovered his wife’s OBGYN practice does not accept Medicaid.
Elise Stefanik became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. She won New York’s 21st district, defeating Democrat Aaron Woolf, a filmmaker.
