Have you heard the news? The Kansas City Royals won this years World Series. If not, it was in all the papers so get with the program.
The Royals had a wonderful family team. I told one of my friends toward the end of the season not to bet against them. "They keep coming at you especially in the late innings". In other words, they never give up.
On Tuesday of this past week the City of Kansas City held a parade to honor the blue and white. Crowd expectations were to be around 150,000 lining the streets to welcome their hometown heroes.
Estimates, as the day grew longer grew to 300,000 then 500,000. By days end 800,000 loyal fans glommed into city center.
Royals fans are legion throughout he Midwest: Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Nebraska. Folks, 800,000 diehard fans is a ton of humanity. But there is one statistic that demonstrates how very wonderful and joyous it is to be considered a Midwesterner.
It is with great pride that I write that with this enormous, magnificent crowd there were only, all day long, three arrests made and they were for public intoxication. Let me repeat: only three arrests out of 800,000 human beings. There was not one murder(take that Chicago), not one mugging, pickpocket, knife slashing, flasher, or any other crime in which the police had to respond.
I'm sure the folks on the coastal regions are clueless regarding these arrests. It's commonplace for them.
For us born and bred in this part of the country our response is, three arrests? Such an outrageous number. What's wrong with our values?
