Competitive Eating

There's something for everyone. That's why they have carnivals They're places for people to practice a trade or, at any rate, to develop one. Most of us have seen Adam Richman on the TV Show, Man vs. Food. Richman inhales massive amounts of food within a certain time limit then gets his picture on a restaruant wall for his achievement. The restaurant gets free advertising so it's a win-win for all parties.  The Quad Cities Times based in Davenport, Iowa is a combination good newspaper and National Enquirer. I read it online because we used to live there. I'm not holding out for a Pulitizer on this post but it's about a guy from Cincinnati, Ohio who is moving to Davenport. His claim to fame is that he's a 'Competitive Eater'. My question is: "how did the Q-C Times find out about this guy"? Would I call the news of the weird department at the Times and say, "Hey, I'm a competitive eater so do a story on me"? Click!
If you're interested here's the rest of the story:

"When Jeremiah Forster pulls up to the table at a local restaurant, he’s not the type of customer the business usually serves.
Forster, 36, of Davenport, is a competitive eater, so he can easily scarf something like 15 doughnuts in two minutes.
But Forster’s also a fitness expert and the general manager of Gold’s Gym in Davenport, who only took up competitive eating a year ago. Inspired by the Travel Channel cable television show “Man v. Food” and with about 20 years of experience in the exercise business, Forster combines his passion for staying fit with his uncanny ability to eat an amazing amount of food at one sitting".
