Take Me To The App Store, Please

There it was, right in front of my eyes, a text message from my seventy-three year old friend. That sort of thing slightly irritates me because there's supposed to be some kind of fraternity when oldsters take great pride in not learning how to do New Age things so the younger kids can take over. They then laugh at us when we ask, "what's a computer"? I had decided that texting is not for me but I may have to change my attitude. On second thought I won't because sending a text costs money and I'd rather spend my cash on something important like golf tees. I also have the feeling that texting has fallen to the back of the pack in 'what's new' in the technological age.
Yeah, sure, I've heard the word, Apps. They came into existence some time around 2010. I don't exactly understand how they work. Ah heck, why lie. I don't know diddly squat about how Apps work. I do know that my son has one on his computer that shows the golf course we're playing and gives the distances to the green. It's also free which is a plus. Last week I saw on a TV show a segment on a new App that, when waved over a piece of supposedly expensive jewelry, tells whether or not it is that, expensive or fake. Then, this morning, I was drinking coffee with my ex-wife(see blog 12-15-13) and she said Apple is coming out with an app----no wait---I have to jump back. Apple has a computer watch(don't laugh, I'm guessing on the terminology)that has an App letting you know if you are going to have a heart attack. It comes out tomorrow. This will automatically do for seniors what Viagra promises, to be able to "get back in the game and stay there a bit longer". Do ya' think Apple stock will jump up or not? The times in which we live are mindboggling, Thank God for her the Ex is brilliant. When Apple first came on the market her broker told her not to get involved; "It's a loser company", he said.
The point of this entire piece is that I'm not ready for 'the home'. I want to get into the technological swing of things. I want to be hip and not a dufus. There's more to life than being able to adjust the radio from AM to FM and back again.
I've decided that Apps are beautiful things. Do you suppose App is short for Applications? Baby steps, my friends, baby steps.
