Kids Must Not Sin These Days
My wife on I will be in Fatima, Portugal next Friday. It's the site of a Roman Catholic Shrine to venerate the appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three peasant children in 1917. It's important to Catholics, especially to my wife and I. Mary is my 'go to' person when I pray. I mean, who can turn down the Mother of God. Personally, I'm more enamored with Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico. If anyone doubts the existence of Mary as a hoax they should check out this story. Here's one for you. If big shot people are so important why is it saints or Mary never appear to them? It's always the poor and destitute.
Anyway, I put in an order for friends if they would like a remembrance from Fatima, a picture, rosary, etc. I asked my daughter if she would like a rosary for our seven year old granddaughter who should be making her First Confession. And her response was this: "She makes her First Reconciliation this year.(Reconciliation is a New Age word for First Confession). Then next year she makes her First Communion. Holy Mother of Sins. When I was in the third grade, 1954, I made my First Communion. It was on a Sunday. As a class we made our First Confession the day before. What does that tell you? One thing we had that other classes didn't have were the Ferry Brothers, Rolfes and myself. We were forerunners to terrorists. I guess the hierarchy didn't trust us to go twenty-four hours without disobeying our parents or robbing a bank or eating dessert before dinner. I've seen my granddaughter in action. Illinois Is The Worst State In The US
The sound you hear is the angry grinding of my teeth. Every time I think about Illinois I get as upset as a Muslim married to a prostitute named Miss Piggy. There isn't one redeeming feature about the state. Forget about the Bears and Cubs. Forget about the University of Illinois football team. They've all been horrible for years and are a classic joke. Every freeway in Illinois has been under construction for the last ten years or longer. I-90 from Chicago to Rockford is a slush fund for the Illinois State legislature. Every governor since the birth of Methuselah has been sent to prison for corruption. Illinois makes New Jersey look like Candyland. There are more murders in Chicago on a weekly basis than there are in Iraq and nobody gives a rats you know what.
Here's my personal gripe. If you've ever been in the worst state in the US and near Chicago you know that Interstate 94 goes directly through downtown Chicago. On July 12 I was with some friends in Racine, Wisconsin and on my way back to Ohio. Knowing the inner city, I-94 was seeing massive road construction(what else is new) so my buddy told me to take the I-294 outerbelt around the city and avoid the traffic. "That's a good idea", I thought. "I'll have to pay tolls but being stuck in the city in traffic is tantamount to being sandwiched on a roller coaster between two five hundred pound women". There are six tolls ranging from $3.00 to $2.50 along the route. I became confused on toll four, thought it was an exit for a suburban community, then zipped on through. I gave a brief thought to pulling over and backing up to pay the fee but the freeway was like the Indy 500 so I moved on. I knew the photo snapped my license plate and figured I'd get a notice in the mail. And I did! The fine, in Illinois, for accidentally missing a toll of $2.50 is a whopping $64.10. My teeth have ground so much I'm down to the gums.
Now, the question was do I pay the fine and let the slobs come after me? I have sold the car to another person. He has never been to the Land that God Forgot and doesn't plan on a visit. Besides, I didn't let him know about my dilemma. Also, he purchased new plates for my car. When we travel I always let my wife drive through The Crap State and since the car's registered in her name-- Well, you figure it out. I thought about sending them five dollars a month claiming poverty. I thought about sending ricin in the mail if I actually knew its properties. I thought about all types of devious tricks; dirty bomb came to mind. And then I gave in. I wrote the check to the Illinois Tollway System. I did write on the check in the lower left hand corner: For--corrupt Illinois Tollway. That made me feel good. In the letter I penned it was written, I'm certain this will find it's way into the pockets of a Chicago Alderman. That made me feel even better.
Sixty-four lousy stinking dollars for accidentally missing a toll. As Obama would say about the national debt when he was running in '08, "That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic". I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Illinois the home of our "Corruptor in Chief".
There is not one positive about Illinois. Avoid it like Ebola.

Portugal And Spain Here We Come
If anyone wants to commit a breaking and entering and get away with it you have the perfect opportunity to achieve a successful operation. The wife and I will be in Spain and Portugal for the next two weeks on a river cruise. We do have a sign in our front yard telling potential burglars that our home is protected by a direct police connection but it's a ruse. A fake out if you will. I'm not real big on cruises but I don't have much say in these travel matters. My wife has a crew of friends who asked us to come along for the ride so here we go. I don't know much about Portugal. Prince Henry the Navigator was one of its first famous sailors. At one time Portugal had the finest navy in the world. Did you know that the United States didn't have one iron clad ship at the turn of the 20th century? Portugal also leads the world in the exportation of cork. Wine bottles are eternally grateful. We're looking forward to an excursion to the Shrine at Fatima. You'd have to be Roman Catholic to appreciate the significance unless you happen to be inquisitive.
We'll be in Madrid, Spain, too. I'm sure they have sites. Maybe I'll take in a bullfight----or not. Spain is full of churches and they take up most of the tour time. My Storm Lake correspondent has been asking questions about our trip. Most of my answers have been, "I dunno". I do know the bulk of the trip is a river cruise but I couldn't tell my most trusted friend the name of the river. In other words I don't prepare for our getaways. I get on ships. I sleep on ships. I eat on ships. I look at the scenery and try and remember what towns and cities we saw. A week after we get home I'll ask, "Did we go there"? I was forced to purchase a digital camera with wifi capabilities as a remembrance and to be able to forward pictures to friends and family. I'm too lazy to figure out how this thing functions so I'll leave that to the Queen, too.
I have fears about going to foreign nations. Terrorists don't bother me. When your numbers up your numbers up. Unless I carry a sign saying, "Terrorists eat pigs" then there isn't much that can be done to quell the violence. I fear I won't fall asleep on the plane going over then I'll be a zombie for three days. Six times I've flown across the Atlantic and six times I've been sleepless. This means my system is all screwed up. One lesson learned: I always carry around Euro coins for emergencies. European cities don't have washrooms at hand because there aren't many fast food places. What they do have are toilets that require money to use. It can be a touchy and scary situation if you're not prepared. Which begs the question, "What caused the preparation of coin on hand"? The answer is, "None of your business".
We leave on Wednesday and I'll be out of the loop for awhile so if you do want to steal my baseball card collection or old coins give it a go. I want to make you work for them, though. They're in a secure hiding place. Best of luck.

It's not a good deal when any kid gets shot and dies. I didn't like it when Trayvon died. One aspect of these stories is that we shouldn't lionize these kids. What I initially heard from the media was that Brown was going to be a college student. So what. I was going to be a college student in the Fall of '64 but that didn't mean I could walk down the middle of a busy street with a buddy at night. Sitting in front of my doctors office yesterday a national affiliate broke into the Limbaugh Show to bring us the Robin Williams press conference. I get a kick out of these people. It's like they went to the School of asking Stupid Questions. I suspect it's an ego trip for them and extremely important to get their name and the name of their paper or station on the network. "Jim Idiot, ABC News, New York": Doctor, what did Williams look like while he was tethered to the rope? Stuff like that. This brings to mind the all-time dumbest quote in the history of news conferences. It was a follow up to the Mickey Mantle liver transplant and a reporter asked this gem, "What is the condition of the donor"? Even among his cohorts there was stunned silence then raucous laughter. No Riots At These Ferguson, Mo. Shops
Nobody is robbing St. Louis Ink Tattoo Studio anytime soon. Or County Guns, for that matter.
The two north-county businesses share a storefront in a Florissant strip mall less than ten minute drive from the epicenter of last night's riots in Ferguson. After nightfall, what began as a community's peaceful demonstration against the Ferguson Police Department's shooting of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown turned increasingly violent. Crowds plundered a QuikTrip and burned it to the ground, and local news began reporting brazen raids on other stores in the area.
After hearing of the roving bands of looters, Mike Gutierrez knew he had to protect his tattoo shop. He brought a posse with him, including Adam Weinstein, owner of County Guns, who was acutely worried about criminals getting their hands on his merchandise.
"We didn't want them coming in here and then running around with a bunch of free guns," Weinstein told Daily RFT when we arrive at the store around 12:30 a.m. this morning. Weinstein was outfitted with an assault rifle, pistol and tactical vest. Rioting In Missouri. So, What Else Is New
The kid in the insert is Trey Brewer. He lives in Dallas, Texas. He was arrested in Ferguson, Mo. for rioting and looting.
To often, especially from the media, conclusions are easily drawn. It's the old, "Ready, fire, aim" routine. I'm referring to the Michael Brown death in Ferguson, Missouri. All day on the news the lead stories were Robin Williams and Michael Brown. For Brown it went like this: "Michael Brown, the 18-year old unarmed Black man". This is jumping to a conclusion by using the word 'unarmed'. It inflames because the media, as usual, it is attempting to set the agenda. No one knows the details of this young man's death. The truth will come out and if justice needs to be served then it will. If the police are at fault punishment awaits. If the incident was provoked by Brown panic will ensue and rioting will continue because "The man is keeping us down". Seemingly, isn't this the way it always works? This also puts to rest the plea of Rodney King when he said, "Can't we all just get along".
One guaranteed aspect of the death is that either Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or both will be leading a protest parade in the community. You've heard Jackson's mantra before, "No justice, no peace". Eric Holder has already announced the Justice Department will look into the case as a hate crime. Strange. A few days ago a rabbi in New York City was murdered by two Blacks but this was determined by Holder to be a robbery, not a hate crime. "Hey Eric, tell that to the Jewish community". There has been one incident of a white man attacking a Black in the 'Knock out' game. The number of Black on White 'Knock outs' are too numerous to name. Holder conveniently looks the other way on these occasions but he'll hightail his sorry butt to Ferguson, Missouri looking for a scapegoat. Here's a statistic you may or may not know. It speaks volumes about our society. In America, every month, Blacks murder other Blacks to the tune of 500. For liberals, this number totals 6,000 per year. Ten percent of our population is made up of Blacks yet 58% of our violent crimes are administered by the same group. Praise be to God if just one Black leader spoke out on this. Oh, I should have said one liberal Black leader. When men like Dr. Ben Carson and Bill Cosby do it they're castigated as Uncle Tom's.
I understand the results of a supposed racial injustice. It's a mandatory call for rioting and rampant destruction of a community. In Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb with a 50% minority population, many Black businesses were victims of vandalism by members of their own race from their own community. The rioters helped destroy their own economy and the owners of these businesses had to stand helplessly by and watch the carnage. The conclusion: People who riot do not do it to speak out against racial injustice. What they want are as many pair of Nikes as they can carry under their arms after they've done their looting and let the public be damned.

The Drug Enforcement Administration paid an Amtrak secretary $854,460 over nearly 20 years to obtain confidential information about train passengers, which the DEA could have lawfully obtained for free through a law enforcement network, The Associated Press has learned.
The employee was not publicly identified except as a "secretary to a train and engine crew" in a report on the incident by Amtrak's inspector general. Remembering Hirohito
A number of years ago I read a book detailing Japanese atrocities committed by the Japanese against Filipino citizens during WWII. These innocents: men, women and children were herded into stockades. For fun Japanese soldiers threw live grenades at the people to see their reactions prior to being blown to bits.
In Iraq the Kurdish citizenry are being decimated by tyrannical Islamic terrorists. These atrocities, as with the case of the Filipinos is being waged against noncombatants. Women are being raped, men are having their heads cut off as are those of small children. Today, it was announced that 500 Iraqi tribal members have been buried alive. A question I need to ask is, "Where is the United Nations"?
If there was ever a need for strong and decisive action this is it. If ever there was a cause for war this, too, is a just cause. Our president is permitting limited air strikes and the dropping of food and water. This is the minimum at best. What these people need are massive amounts of ammunition, guns and heavy duty weaponry. We promised we'd deliver and we did, slightly. Iraqi leaders absconded with those promised weapons. So, why not come up with more and hand deliver to the Kurds. Kurdish groups and Israeli's are our only friends in the region. The only reason I can give for Obama's inability to come through is he wants both of these people to be slaughtered. In the meantime, on a daily basis, John Q. is being massively slaughtered by the most inhumane pieces of garbage since Hirohito's forces plundered the Asian continent some eighty years ago.

The Neighborhood Block Party
One of the major drawbacks of being married to an organizational, intelligent woman who has good ideas: She's the one who is picked to be in charge of the operations of an event or club. We live on a U-shaped street with thirty-two condos. Since these dwellings are located on Muirfield Village property and were the brainstorm of Jack Nicklaus everything has to be constructed according to his code. Would you like to freshen up your condo with some new paint? You can if you get permission from the Condo Association. Do you like pretty trees? Don't dig the hole unless you get the okay from the Association. I find it could be a pain in the rear but it's not too much a bother for me since planting a tree or painting over wood aren't on my radar.
There was a movement afoot last March to get more people involved in the Association and to become friendlier with each other. It's a fact that outside of the immediate neighbors on your right and left the rest of the homeowners are foreigners to each other. Unfortunately, we were nominated to have an open house which means I had to make nice with everyone. Our little cocktail party went well, even though only ten people showed, and it was decided come August there would be an outside gathering, a potluck. Once again, we were in charge so I found myself setting up tables and chairs on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Our neighbor two houses down is a lovely woman. Being somewhat of a pessimist I mentioned to her if ten people showed I'd take my wife and she to dinner. She jumped on the bet. I lost. There were twelve in attendance--total. I'm going to get to the point of this blog post quickly after one side note. I had set up four long tables. The purpose of which was for the attendees to place their casseroles, desserts, baked beans, meats and fruits. Being an Iowan and considering this was August I decided this was a recipe for disaster. None of these people brought coverings for their food. I waited for the armies of black flies to descend on the offerings. Nothing. I grew up in Boone, Iowa and in a situation such as this for every mouthful of beans I would have swallowed ten flies and fifteen sweat bees. They would have found their final resting place in my throat. In Ohio, I saw two black flies. They settled on the side of potato salad bowls, looked around at the landscape, then skedaddled off to God knows where.
Two men caught my interest. One of them was my age----old. He had a block haircut that hung four inches over his collar. He carried around a glass of wine. His attire: an untucked blue, long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. he wore wire rim glasses and Birkenstocks. Let's face it. He still longed for the Sixties. And, when I offered a five year old a cookie he jumped up and asked the kid's mother if he was allergic to peanut butter. You get the picture. The other guy, slightly younger than I, was employed by Columbus City government. There's no nice way to write this. His belly hung down to his kneecaps and his face saw a razor every four or five days. It was told to me that one of his co-workers was a former student and athlete of mine from Rock Island, Ill. from the 80's so we chatted about him. The guy's background was that of an adjutant at Rutgers who taught government in an earlier life. He was also a history major so we shared this info. There was a nice conversation for awhile. That's when the thing that hits the fan occurred. My good friend and neighbor brought up the fact that he had had a conversation with this fella a few weeks before about history. He mentioned how they had disagreed on a few aspects of government. Can you say, "Red Flags"?
I listened without input as he went on about the origins of the Democrat and Republican parties. It's when he said, "The Republican Party began in 1854 but they weren't racist at the time". Time for MJ to jump in action, right? My comeback was, "Do you really want to get into this and have your ass decimated"? Being the liberal that he is he gave me a snarky answer. It was then that 'Birkenstock Boy' chimed in with, "We could talk about the TEA Party" then both goobers chuckled. I responded with, "Yes, hang the bastards. Their call for limited government, adherence to the Constitution and limited taxes is obscenely radical". And I did something I've rarely, if ever, done in sixty-eight years. I got up and walked away.
Truth be told I was pleased with myself. Coincidentally, yesterday happened to be the fourteenth anniversary of when I stopped drinking. Lucky for 'Belly Boy' and his pal because my old Jack Daniels mouth would have been a train wreck for me. There might be a correlation to this: booze and arguing. Maybe I've matured. Besides, we all know I have an alligator mouth and hummingbird butt. All in all it was an okay day, if you like those types of socials.

Al Sharpton, along with his nonprofit National Action Network and two for-profit firms, have $4.7 million in outstanding debt and liens, according to federal and state tax records, the New York Post reported on Sunday. Among the debts include $806,875 that Sharpton owes the state, along with $2.6 million in federal liens against him for unpaid personal income taxes, the Post stated. My Last Word On Global Warming-Ever!
I know a little about a lot of things. When it comes to science and our atmosphere I'm an expert on diddly squat. Quoting the long gone Oklahoma sage, Will Rogers, "All I know is what I read in the papers" and who can trust that form of media anymore. Here's the poop on global warming. In the last 100 years the temperature of the entire earth has risen 1 degree Fahrenheit. That's it and you can take that to the bank. I can understand this temperature increase. There's a world of concrete out there that wasn't in 1914. People in Africa(Did you read in the news today that Joe Biden referred to Africa as a nation?), and Pakistan have dwellings with tin roofs. These have to be brutal in the dry season. Seriously, Obama and the United Nations want the US to pony up increased tax cash on the amount of carbon output produced. I.e. The primary bad guys for global warming, China, India and industrialized eastern European nations get off with a freebie. Does anyone with brain cells actually believe these people are going to submit to increased taxes and the shutting down of smokestacks across the landscape? I don't think so. Skeptics and other liberals would ask this question, "MJ, how can you, a know nothing Phy. Ed. and History Major offer you inane opinion on the matters of global warming"? Good question, I say. In addition, American Atheists is making available its recently-digitized historic video archives spanning more than 50 years of activism.

Muslim Achievements Are Nil
During an idle moment this morning Obama's speech of last week crossed my mind. Then I saw this picture on iOwnTheWorld and started contemplating The One's statement about Muslims contributing to the fabric of America and I was left dumbfounded. I couldn't come up with one achievement. When have you seen an orphanage begun by these people? How about a new deli sandwich or a unique diet soda? There's nuthin' that's credit worthy; no charities, no endowments to young people for college, no American heroes, no nothing. The only positive I can give would be that they provide motel services. Then again, those might be Paki's so I could wrong about that, too.
You Can't Have Your Cake And Eat It, Too
In watching the news this morning I was reminded, once again, how horrible it must be to be a liberal. Government nutritional standards are about to kick in in our schools and most of you know that bake sales are on the chopping block. It's another intrusion into our lives that is, how can I say this, oh yeah, stupid. For a lot of schools across the land bake sales are mandatory money makers. They're like taxes gained by states for the amount of marijuana that is sold daily so politicians can spend, spend, spend. Band uniforms, athletic game balls, school sponsored trips, participation fees for sports will see their coffers diminished because Michelle Obama(who was elected to nothing)has convinced a nitwit to pass legislation to eliminate a longstanding American tradition.(The law was passed when the Dem party controlled both Houses).
I harken back to the Fifties and the fundraisers that took place at Sacred Heart grade school in Boone, Iowa. When you're a little kid nights of fun at the school carnival provide long term memory treasures. Our Fun Night event was held indoors in the basement of our school. There were games of skill and luck to be played. I may have won one of those Chines girl catchers. They were made of colored woven straw. If you put your finger in one end and a girl put her finger in the other then both of you pulled at the same time the straw constricted and you caught the girl. We knew they were made in China because they were cheaply constructed. Simple times were magical. One of the events was the famous cakewalk. On the stage were twenty numbers placed in a circle. Twenty people paid one thin dime to stand on a number. When the music started these people walked counter clockwise until the music stopped. A number was drawn and the person standing on that number won a cake. I won a cake once. The winner could pick out their own prize which were donated by mother's from our school. There were many from which to choose. I picked the angel food one. I had visions of eating it all by myself. It wasn't to be so. Some lady with a big butt and a dark complexion who was once proud of her country came to the event, told us we couldn't keep the cakes because of bad nutrition, and forcibly made me flush my cake down the toilet. That's what's happening today in our schools. All the fun is going in the can because nerdy folks who have more money than they could ever use think we're totally ignorant; that we can't make decisions for ourselves. I detest unregulated government. I really do.

In 1993, Senator Reid introduced a bill — the Immigration Stabilization Act — to cut back on all immigration, both legal and illegal.
Senator Reid said: “Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care and other benefits, often without paying taxes.” He said, “Safeguards like welfare and free medical care are in place to boost Americans in need of short-term assistance.” He added: “These programs were not meant to entice freeloaders and scam artists from around the world.”

My wife and I drove an hour west of Dublin to visit with our three grandchildren and gaze at the youngest, now a month old. Our precious Kingston turns four in three days and I was curious as to what he might like for his birthday so I asked him what he wanted. He gave me a vague answer about presents. A few days ago we shared the Washington Times story about a facility in New Mexico being closed due to a Chicken Pox outbreak.
