I was in Des Moines, Iowa yesterday taking a tour of the City. My friend and I drove by MacRae Park. My wife's uncle, the brother of her dad, Donald MacRae, was the 3rd American killed in WWI. It gives pause, doesn't it?
The first American killed in action in the First World War was Merle Hay who was also from Des Moines.
