I hate to be a spoil sport for my very favorite baseball team. I am and have been a die hard since 1969. However, my eyelids completely took over at the end of the 8th inning at about the time the Indians tied the game with a 2 run homer.
Kids, I went to bed. I knew I'd awaken sometime in the middle of the night as nature called and I could easily find the score on my computer----and I did. I didn't jump up and down and dance around my man cave. What I said to no one in particular was, "Wow, that's great".
Every media outlet on this day after has representatives stationed throughout Wrigleyville looking for side stories. One aspect of their reporting regarded the still present fans; savoring the victory. What was said was that the crowds, last night and today, were 'like a family'; joyous, cheering, chanting and singing. What a pleasant surprise.
Think back to other celebrations after a World Series win. Take Detroit(please), for example. When they win there are bonfires, cars turned over then set on fire. Vandalism runs rampant.
But not on the North Side of Chicago. It makes a guy feel good that the team I adore has the best and most respectful fans in the world.
Go Cubs!
