And Kate Steinle's Killer Walked Free

TAMPA — A 43-year-old Pinellas County man was sentenced Monday to spend 27 years in federal prison for a 2017 armed robbery that authorities said netted him a total of $374.
That breaks down to $13.85 for every year Patrick D. Cummings faces in prison.
A federal indictment said Cummings used a gun to rob a St. Petersburg Walgreens on March 24. He walked into the drug store after 4 a.m., pressed a black handgun against a cashier’s back and threatened to shoot her unless she gave him all the money in the register, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Tampa. Investigators said they identified Cummings by matching fingerprints he left behind.
In July, Cummings pleaded guilty to a charge of interference with commerce by robbery. Then in a November bench trial, U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday found Cummings guilty of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, then sentenced him on Monday.
