While most teenage boys are inventing new ways to annoy each other and their parents, 15-year-old Maryland schoolboy Jack Andraka has been busily
pioneering a new way to test for pancreatic cancer. Andraka was awarded first prize at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for his dipstick sensor which can test blood or urine to see if someone has early-stage pancreatic cancer. His patent-pending test has proved to be more than 90 percent accurate, and 28 times cheaper and 1000 times more sensitive than existing tests for the disease. Sounds like he definitely deserved the fair's $75,000 prize money.
